Food Myth #3: Better Living Through Chemistry!

Chemicals are ubiquitous in our society – having snuck into all aspects of our lives.

  1. Beauty Products will not enhance beauty.  The chemicals in beauty products derive from petroleum sources, solvents, and other chemicals which interrupt hormone processes in the body.  If your hormones are off, switch to organic versions of soaps, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, etc.

  2. Chemical cleaning products are not more effective at cleaning.  I have been cleaning with baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice for 10 years now.  THe first thing that I noticed is that my son stopped getting colds during the winter.  My research taught me that cleaners like lysol and bleach depress the immune system and burn the lungs, increasing the likelihood that exposure to germs will cause illness.

  3. Food additives are everywhere!  Food additives (even when they are called natural) are chemical in origin, have unknown effects on the body, and are not tested for safety.  Many food additives including food coloring, have been closely connected to behavior changes like ADD and ADHD.

  4. Pesticides and herbicides are not safe.  Pesticides like Round-up have been proven to change the sex of frogs, and have shown repeatedly to affect fertility and ability to carry babies to full term in workers who are exposed to the pesticides.  High exposure to pesticides in processed and conventionally grown foods may be the reason for the increase in infertility problems among this generation – what is next???
